Waiting for Henry

Henry should be here soon. YAY! Then we are all going to take a little walk, and, if all goes well, I’ll be able to post a proper update for you all.

The place we looked at yesterday was not worth the effort. It looked great from the front. The leasing agent was making his best effort to get us all signed up for a unit we wouldn’t even be able to see because it was still being “cleaned”. Here’s a tip for anyone out there who doesn’t yet have my wealth of experience: If the ad says the unit is available now, but you are only allowed to view a model unit because the unit they want to rent you is being “cleaned”, you should begin seeing oversized red flags flying all over the place. For reals. So, when they sent us off to get them a money-order for the non-refundable application fees, we decided to take a walk: around the front of the property to a side street and back up a different driveway and through the complex.

Holy Hell. There is NO WAY I would ever let my children live there. Nope. Nope. Nope.

There is a complex that I have pretty much fallen in love with, but the rent is just a little too high right now. I do think that we will be in a position to go there next year. For now, though, we have some rebuilding to do. We will spend a year repaying our debts and getting our house back in order. We’ll move to the place that I don’t love quite as much, but where I feel my children will be safe and happy. It’s clean and well-maintained, and the management seems honest. Honest managers are hard to come by. In this case, I feel certain that this person has definitely moved beyond high school, if you know what I mean.

Huh. There’s a lot of words up there already. Did I say this wouldn’t be a proper update? I suppose I mean to say it is not complete.

Both kids are on fall break this upcoming week, and I suspect we’ll be busy, what with getting settled and cleaning this unit. I want to clean the carpets, wipe down the walls, and generally make sure everything is in order before we hand in our keys. Once we have the important stuff in place at our new place I am going to take a day to relax and spend some time catching up with all of you.

sigh Its good to have a plan.
