My roses were big and beautiful with gorgeous color. Now a dozen are missing; the bushes look forlorn and naked. Then I spy him mounting Ms. Johnson’s front steps, his wrinkled hands clutching roses and his face as hopeful as a teenager.
Above is my first Gargleblaster post. Yippee! I just hope I followed the directions properly…
EDIT: Meh. Not sure if I made it in time or not. Oh, well. It was fun anyway. Thanks, djmatticus! (I’d link to you, but I’m afraid it will be against the rules.) 🙂
Awww, cute and sweet! I love it!
And no worries about linking to me. I was on the look out, and I don’t need the shout out. If you hadn’t found it on my site, you’d have seen it it someplace else. I think the Gargleblaster is open until Wednesday… did you add your link to the link-up?

I did, but I’m not sure if I ended up being submission number 42 or 43. It’s limited to 42, right?
LikeLike
What the what? Is it limited to 42? I wasn’t aware of that rule…
Hmmm….
Now I’m going to have to go look.
LikeLike
Would you look at that. It is limited to 42 (of course, as it says), but I see you there, so looks like you made it in.

I see me, too, but I counted 43 entries there after I submitted, so I don’t know if mine will get kicked or not.

There were only 42 when I looked…

Weird… there are 43 entries!
It’s not often we get to catch a thief red-rose handed. At his wrinkled stage, he should know stolen flowers don’t bloom as beautifully 🙂

Ah, but love blooms no matter the season. If it doesn’t blind you, it at least gives you rose-colored vision. 🙂

See, I’d have expected it from a teenager. But what do you do when a wrinkled person steals your roses? Interesting!

i love this! I was trying to do it and could not for the life of me insert that code! Thanks for the inspiration. This was hard to submit. Even if it is too late, which I don’t think it is (I was able to find your pic and get the link to this post) at least you were able to actually do it correctly! that says a lot in my book

After I get M to sleep I’ll tell you how I did it. (HINT: I did not follow their instructions.)
You would be *fantastic* at this. ALSO, you can still submit for a different challenge. I’ll have to look into that for you.

Ok. I had to go back and see how I did this so I don’t mess up the steps for you. The instructions tell you to grab the code below the appropriate image, then “Open your blog post in edit mode, click on “Text” or “HTML” to get to the html code and paste the code there.”
I had no idea what they were talking about, so…
1. I went to my dashboard and selected Posts, Add New. I wrote my entry.
2. I needed to add the image/link back to Yeah Write. I clicked on the “Add Media” button.
3. I selected “Insert from URL”
4. The code for Gargleblaster Challenge #156 looks like this (minus the spaces):
It’s not in the right format for this method of mine, so I copied this part (again, minus spaces): http://yeahwrite.me/ wp-content/uploads /2014/03/ gargle156.png
5. I pasted this in the top field (where it says “http:// Make sure you copy OVER this. Otherwise you’ll have two http://'s and that will muck up the works.)
6. Align the image, etc. Near the bottom of the window you will see a section labeled “Link to”. Select “Custom URL”.
7. From the code in step 4, copy the http:// right after the <a href= tag (minus spaces: http:// yeahwrite.me /gargleblaster-156/ ) Paste it into the Custom URL field
8. Click "Insert into post"
Done. (except for the linkup) It took longer than I feel it should have. I need to see if I can't make their far more straightforward directions work. I just did not know what they were talking about and knew I was running out of time. I improvised.
The instructions also say that if you miss the grid you can either link to your submission in the comments or "submit it to the weekend moonshine grid". I haven't figured out all the different grids yet.

what the… I’m sorry. That didn’t work out at ALL how I wanted.
Apparently you just paste the code into your post? That didn’t seem to work when I tried it earlier, but…

If a dork is someone who takes tons of time to help me out for absolutely no gain on their part but simply out of support, then yeah, you’re definitely a dork. The time difference and my million attempts at trying to comment from the app. wouldn’t not go through (Which is dumb) I have a million thank yous for you! Dorks Rule!

Thanks for your comment, Christine! I usually don’t write fiction at all, let alone micro-fiction. This represents several firsts for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I could picture the wrinkled, hopeful man. I guess I should feel anger toward him (thief!), but I felt it was an impulsive, lovable moment.
I am glad you made it onto the grid. I couldn’t believe how fast it filled up!
