Parting is such sorrow.

That is not a typo. I did not a word.

About 15 minutes two hours ago the DC jack became separated from the motherboard inside my trusty old brick of a laptop.

I’m not saying I shouldn’t have seen it coming. Every now and again the little power light would flicker at me in warning. I guess I just didn’t recognize the signs. Today, though, it seems they made their estrangement official as they no longer seem to be communicating at all.

I probably should have stopped referring to their collaboration as a “trusty old brick” a long time ago. Some things sound too much like prophecy in hindsight.

Fortunately, I still have an old tablet I can use to harass you. It’s not the same, though. Using it to blog feels clumsy and weird, like a first kiss. I fear this may know this will be a blow to my prolificacy.

I know this is hard to hear, but chin up! In time there will be another laptop, and we’ll look back at this and laugh. You’ll see.

Update: Yeah, the tablet is NOT going to be a viable alternative. This should explain why you didn’t see this post when I wrote it. I ended up borrowing my neighbor’s laptop so no one will think I fell off the planet. I do, however, need to fix it for them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many toolbars…

  1. I had to purchase a new laptop recently, the burning smell and background humming that was similar to a ‘blast off’ was unnerving. I now have a draw with three almost broken, ready to die laptops that I refuse to get rid off!!! I mean they do still work after all. It is a bit like when you said “Yeah, the tablet is NOT going to be a viable alternative.” For the first few moments of using the alternatives, or the older options you think it can work, but ultimately it won’t. So I REALLY do not know why I keep them.
